“Evelyn was a teacher, a gardener, and the steady heart of a large and loving family.”
Their Story
Evelyn was a teacher, a gardener, and the steady heart of a large and loving family. For thirty-eight years she taught at the same primary school, where generations of children learned to read at her side.
She loved hymns, hibiscus, and Sunday dinners that stretched late into the evening. Her warmth reached everyone who passed through her door — there was always room at her table, and always one more story to tell.
She is survived by her three children, eleven grandchildren, and a community that loved her dearly. Her light remains in all of them.

Memories & Tributes
Mama taught me that a full table and an open door are the same thing as love. I still set a place for one more, the way she always did.
Marcia Campbell
Daughter
Mrs. Campbell put the first book in my hands and told me I was clever. I became a teacher because of her. Generations of us owe her our letters.

Former pupil, Class of 1979
Her hibiscus still bloom by the chapel gate. Every Sunday they remind us of the woman who planted them and sang the loudest in the front pew.
